Poland look to be racing clear at the top of Group A, but on closer inspection they are not as secure as they might seem, having lost 2 matches and having played 2 more than nearest rivals Serbia and Portugal, who are both only 5 points behind. Despite a good start, losing to Azerbaijan and then at home to Serbia means that Finland are still in contention, albeit with dented prospects.
In September there are two double-headers that will to a large extent decide the qualifying two from these four teams include Portugal v Poland and Serbia v Finland, both on September 8. Four days later Finland v Poland and Portugal v Serbia are on September 12. These games are all available live and on demand online with JumpTV at http://euro2008.jumptv.com/ as are many other Group A games, including Belgium v Serbia on 22 August, Azerbaijan v Portugal on 13th October and Poland v Belgium and Portugal v Armenia, both on 17th November. Qualification is brought to a close on the 21st November, when it’s Portugal v Finland and Serbia v Poland. With this group still remarkably hard to call and full of talented players including Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Nikola Zigic, it could go right down to the last kick of the last match. Stay tuned for the action!
